Other Activity: Resident female perched on nest on platform 1, resident male perched on platform 2 eating a small fish. A mature bald eagle was flying up the river and both the male and female flew to challenge it, with the male chasing the eagle while carrying its fish. The eagle continued to fly up the river and the male followed. At that point another osprey flew over from the direction of Woodbridge Island at an altitude higher than the resident male. The resident male then flew off to the northwest across the marsh and the other osprey returned toward Woodbridge. The resident male carried its small fish in its talons during this whole encounter.
Observation Method: from bedroom window
General Comments: The residents are defending their nest territory. It is interesting that the ospreys tolerate marsh hawks flying nearby the nest, but attack eagles and great blue herons that come near.
