For more than 15 years, Greenbelt has been dedicated to Osprey conservation through the construction and maintenance of nesting platforms, data collection, public education, and collaborative research efforts aimed at protecting this once endangered species. Volunteers submit their sightings online, and the most recent sightings are displayed in real-time.

Other Activity: No osprey observed in the area while out kayaking, but at 11:30 AM through a spotting scope from Argilla, there appeared to be an osprey on this nest. 6 great egrets observed in the marsh

Other Activity: The lone female osprey was adding nesting materials to the nest on Platform 1 all afternoon and making begging calls for a mate a lot of the time. She had been solo for several days, but she finally got her wish as a male flew to the nest late in the day and they perched together for over an hour. Maybe the old pair has reunited or maybe it is a new pair.

Other Activity: After being unsuccessful in chasing an eagle away from the nest on Platform 1, there was little osprey activity for a couple of days. A lone female osprey resumed nest-building on platform 1 yesterday and is perched there today. All the nest-building has been be a lone female after one brief visit by a male a few days ago to help chase off another pair of ospreys who were intruding.

General Comments: There must be a lot of fish in the Merrimack. I counted 56 seals hauled out this morning on Half-tide Rocks. Fat and happy.
