General Comments: It’s difficult to see up into the nest, but I don’t think there are any chicks yet. She stayed put the entire time we were observing. There was another large bird perched on a tree across the river, it looked like a turkey vulture or possibly a hawk. It was not the bald eagle. The turns were not happy with its presence, they were flying all around in large groups being very loud.

Other Activity: Jack and Ivy have had a few interesting days. Several boats have come up river near the nest and the ospreys aggressively reacted. Both birds were circling the boats and screeching from the air. After the boats left, a third Osprey came by and Jack chased it away. Finally, I stood with my brother (about 2 football fields away) looking at the birds with binoculars. Suddenly Ivy flew off the nest and Jack took her place. Ivy made a beeline to us standing on the hill and proceeded to screech and circle us. We walked around the house and Ivy returned to the nest. We walked back out to the hill and Ivy came flying off the nest at us. This is the first time the ospreys were worrying about me from my observation point. This pair is definitely serious about protecting their chicks.

Observation Method: On the back deck and adjoining hill with binoculars
