Adult Osprey Activity Observed:
Osprey Perched

Location, Date & Time of Observation:
2022-04-16

at: Salisbury

Number of Adults Visible: 4

Number of Nestlings Visible: 0

Number of Fledglings Visible: 0

Weather Conditions: 57, 10 mph SW, cloudy

Other Activity: There has been fighting over the nest on Platform 1 all morning. The typical pattern is for the current resident pair to be on the platform and to be attacked by an intruding female. The resident male leaves the nest, but does not actively chase the intruding female. He either flies away or flies to perch on another platform while the intruder continues to attack. Sometimes the resident female is dislodged and chases the intruder. If the intruder goes to perch on another platform the resident female flies over to chase the intruder away and then returns to platform 1.

Observation Method: from bedroom window

General Comments: The behavior of the resident male is unusually passive. In previous years the resident male has been the chief defender of the nest site and has chased all intruders away while the resident female typically stayed on the nest.
