Osprey Incubating Eggs or Chicks

at: Boxford

Number of Adults Visible: mostly 1, 2 briefly

Number of Nestlings Visible: 0

Number of Fledglings Visible: 0

Weather Conditions: 63℉ Calm with occasional wee breeze; mainly overcast with a touch of sun now and then

Other Activity: One adult deep in nest, head popping up often; #2 adult flew to nest, perhaps dropping food in (not sure); both adults briefly on or in nest; one flew away (not sure which); other in nest seemed to be eating once or twice but I could not see if feeding another; adult stayed on nest with mostly head up but occasionally body seen when adult changed positions; I was just leaving when adult went up on edge of nest & focused on something moving for 2-3 minutes but nothing came & adult went back down into nest; I heard a "purring" sound which was answered from a distance (not sure if it was osprey because I had not heard them make this sound previously); this sound got louder & more frantic; adult stayed on nest rim, pecking down at self (bugs?) & bobbing head down into nest (not sure if eating/feeding); after about 5 minutes, adult went back down into nest with head up

Observation Method: On foot

General Comments: This nest is very deep, so observing anything lower than the rim is impossible. Too bad!
