For more than 15 years, Greenbelt has been dedicated to Osprey conservation through the construction and maintenance of nesting platforms, data collection, public education, and collaborative research efforts aimed at protecting this once endangered species. Volunteers submit their sightings online, and the most recent sightings are displayed in real-time.

General Comments: The last few days only one osprey has been present on the platforms. Made me wonder if something happened. Today none are present which if very unusual. On of the pair is almost always perched on one platform or another--holding the territory.

Other Activity: There are two pairs, one on #1 and #2!! Female in #2 and male on marsh perch...Male flew over to #1 and mated with female....thinking he was cheating, I realized that the male belonged to the female on #1 and the female on #2 was sitting on the nest, went out to gather nesting material when the male showed up that belongs to her on #2. So exciting!!

Weather Conditions: 51 F, sunny, scant breeze, high tide.

Other Activity: Neither one anywhere to be seen at first, but then both flew in. Female on nest pole for a bit. Then on nest, which is so deep, only the top of her head is visible. (I wonder if she might be sitting on eggs?)

Observation Method: On foot with binoculars.

General Comments: Male flew onto the separate perch pole, and then to a marsh grass hummock about 100 yards away.

Other Activity: Bob has been doing a great job bringing in fish for Pauline. At one point, Pauline enjoyed her breakfast on the marsh post while Bob stood on the edge of the nest watching over the eggs.
