For more than 15 years, Greenbelt has been dedicated to Osprey conservation through the construction and maintenance of nesting platforms, data collection, public education, and collaborative research efforts aimed at protecting this once endangered species. Volunteers submit their sightings online, and the most recent sightings are displayed in real-time.

General Comments: Male takes incredible care of female. He brings her fish few times per day. Sometimes she eats alone, but he often says so they enjoy the fish together. I’ve seen her leave the nest for 1 very short time. She’s constantly preening and feeding at least 1 nestling; it’s scrawny head now appears throughout feeding. Male diligent at “housekeeping” responsibilities.

Other Activity: The 1 nestling that was visible was lying down in the nest the whole time. We watched for 15 minutes, but did not see a second one. 2 weeks ago there were 2.

Other Activity: While we were on the way to the nest area, the male flew by with a fish and landed on the pole near the nest. It began eating while the female at the nest was calling and calling at him. The small nestling was visible right nest to her. This continued the whole time we watched, and we could hear her calling from way across the marsh when we left. Finally, when we were back by Brophy, she stopped calling and we saw an osprey fly by. Perhaps the rest of the fish was finally delivered.

General Comments: Looked over to Round Island on the way to Babson and did not observe any osprey.
