Name: SALLY MCMURRY

Nest Name:
SLM-04 - National Grid Transmission Tower

Adult Osprey Activity Observed:
Other (specify below)

Location, Date & Time of Observation:
2025-07-19
09:15 AM to 11:15 AM
at: Salem

Number of Adults Visible: 2

Number of Nestlings Visible: 2

Number of Fledglings Visible:

Weather Conditions: 72, slight breeze, sunny, tide halfway out

Other Activity: Where this nest is concerned, I observed four osprey on top of the pylon: two in the nest, one on the top struts, and one on a wire next to the very top. I infer that since all four were in such close proximity to the nest, that these were are the two adults that have been nesting here along with their two young. At this point the young are flapping and quite big. I don't know for sure if either has been officially fledged. The big show, however, was that eleven osprey total were soaring above the cove for at least a couple of hours, fishing. They were joined by about 25 egrets (both Great and Snowy), 5 Great Blue Herons, and multiple cormorants. There must have been lots of fish in the cove, and the water was calm and clear. The egrets, cormorants, and herons were observed catching small fish. Several osprey caught bigger fish and headed out presumably towards other nests across the North River and towards Salem Harbor.

Observation Method: on foot, binoculars from across cove
