For more than 15 years, Greenbelt has been dedicated to Osprey conservation through the construction and maintenance of nesting platforms, data collection, public education, and collaborative research efforts aimed at protecting this once endangered species. Volunteers submit their sightings online, and the most recent sightings are displayed in real-time.

Other Activity: Nestlings practicing with their wings. One kept a foot above nest for 20 seconds, the other only hopping up and down. Third young one not evident, fledged?

Other Activity: One adult in nest feeding what seemed to be two nestlings. Waited to see if they were flapping wings but didn’t see that. One other adult flew off to ocean in this general area but not specifically from the nesting area.

Other Activity: The female was feeding a nesting whole time there. The male was also in nest mostly sitting but several times would perch on edge of nest and flap wings. The heads of 1, and possibly 2, other nestlings with occasionally raise their heads above top of nest.

General Comments: Got no idea if chick viable or not. Can we use drone to see? Each on perches or nest throughput days but occasionally no adult bird present. Between water ripples, sun, heat, I get mirages so not sure. Nest built up so high to protect nest, can’t see a thing. With 2 cold snaps and blinding rains, high winds, perhaps chick died? Won’t know without observing inside nest. I spend a few minutes every hour and 1/2 hr checking. Would love to know if I’m wasting my time.
