Weather Conditions: 69 degrees, cloudy, wind 6 mph, gusts to 12 mph. Tide was middle-high and rising.
Other Activity: When I arrived, only the adult on the nest was around. It was sitting low in the nest but would occasionally shift and poke its beak down into the nest a few times before snuggling back down into the nest. Twelve minutes into my watch, the other adult returned to sit on the post near the nest stand. It did not have food with it.
Observation Method: on foot
General Comments: A tree recently fell across the trail that goes across Kent's Island. There's one small tree that's no problem, but after that, there's a bigger tree covered with poison ivy. It's about 1/10th of a mile from where the woods end and the marsh begins. Climbing over the tree entails stepping in poison ivy while trying to avoid it on the tree itself. If ECGA could ask the wildlife management area folks to clear the tree from the trail, that would be great. Also, if the path leading to the tree and the marsh could be mowed once, it would likely reduce the number of ticks and mosquitoes to contend with on my way out to the nest stand. The grass is very high, and the ticks are pretty bad.
