For more than 15 years, Greenbelt has been dedicated to Osprey conservation through the construction and maintenance of nesting platforms, data collection, public education, and collaborative research efforts aimed at protecting this once endangered species. Volunteers submit their sightings online, and the most recent sightings are displayed in real-time.

Other Activity: An osprey could be seen on the high perch at Dilly while observing at Great Bank. We paddled close enough to see that no osprey was down in the nest.

Other Activity: When approaching, at a distance, 1 osprey could be seen perched in the nest and 1 above the nest. Then both were perched down in the nest at the edge. By the time we were closer to the nest, 1 had flown off and the second appeared to be tending to something in the nest, bending its head down repeatedly to 2 different spots. near where it was perrched. No nestling heads were visible though. The second osprey returned with a stick and placed it at the side of the nest. Then the second perched back up top. The osprey down in the nest continued to appear to tend to something in the nest.

Other Activity: Female was in the nest as I approached. Male was perched on a nearby piece of driftwood in the marsh . What was interesting was that he was perched next to a seagull. As I approached the nest the male did leave the driftwood and come to the nest.
