For more than 15 years, Greenbelt has been dedicated to Osprey conservation through the construction and maintenance of nesting platforms, data collection, public education, and collaborative research efforts aimed at protecting this once endangered species. Volunteers submit their sightings online, and the most recent sightings are displayed in real-time.

Other Activity: A few minutes after setting up the bigger young one flew onto the platform and the smaller one flew past back and forth several times then landed on the top of the pole. Ten minutes later, the bigger one flew off again. Didn't see the adult.

Other Activity: Nest empty when we arrived, a few minutes later the bigger of the young flew on the platform and the smaller flew back and forth past the nest and eventually landed on the top of the pole. Sometime late the bigger flew off again. The adult wasn't there.

General Comments: This is a duplicate entry. The first entry did not seem to take so I retried without using the "today" feature of the calendar.

Observation Method: On foot with scope.

General Comments: I'm perplexed! This nest has had only one chick all season, now suddenly, a second chick is in the nest. Both are looking like they're close to fledging. No parent in sight.

Weather Conditions: 89 degrees, light wind, partly cloudy, incoming very high tide

Other Activity: 1 fledgling was quietly perched on the nest. An adult (I believe) flew past carrying a fish. The fledgling did not call out, and the adult flew over to the west side of Dean and was later observed eating the fish.

Other Activity: Fledgling on the post by the nest, calling softly. I just observed it at a distance, so it didn't flush, and it stayed on the post.
