For more than 15 years, Greenbelt has been dedicated to Osprey conservation through the construction and maintenance of nesting platforms, data collection, public education, and collaborative research efforts aimed at protecting this once endangered species. Volunteers submit their sightings online, and the most recent sightings are displayed in real-time.

Other Activity: Female buzzing coyote

Observation Method: visual from house

General Comments: Initially there were no ospreys visible. Partway through, adult (perhaps female) arrived with animated flight. Buzzed a coyote just across the creek from the post. Coyote departed, perhaps with dark object in its mouth. Adult osprey roosted nearby. Note, no sign of chick. Yesterday, chick had been doing much wing flapping with occasional lifts. Seemed ready to fledge.

Other Activity: Nestling no visible crouched low in nest. Adult perched nearby.

Observation Method: visual from house

General Comments: Appears that nestling was crouched low and not visible while female was off foraging. She returned and drove coyote away.

Other Activity: Mom was on the perch waiting patiently for her chick to fledge.

Observation Method: On foot with scope.

General Comments: I was sure this little fellow would have had the confidence to fledge after being held and banded. He got through that, but spreading one's wings all the way takes a lot of courage. He's almost there!

General Comments: Moose fledged on Tuesday. Both parents were there cheering him on. This morning, Moose went fishing with his dad. They are enjoying their breakfast together.

Other Activity: Posting prior report. I still had the page open with the DCR WebCam. 8/3 osprey arrived and is laying in the nest. Assumption being that this is the new fledgling.
