For more than 15 years, Greenbelt has been dedicated to Osprey conservation through the construction and maintenance of nesting platforms, data collection, public education, and collaborative research efforts aimed at protecting this once endangered species. Volunteers submit their sightings online, and the most recent sightings are displayed in real-time.

Observation Method: Pulled into rear of FedEx distribution facility and viewed with binoculars and scope
General Comments: Wow, parked at the rear of the distribution center, we were quizzed about the nature of our visit. And we were given the go ahead to continue our observation and undisturbed.

Other Activity: Observed one fledgling in the nest. After departure from this location, The utility pole disc was empty. There was one adult viewed out on the radio tower self feeding.
Observation Method: Parked in route 107 pullout area and walk to edge of river. Observed with scope.

Other Activity: Female buzzing coyote
Observation Method: visual from house
General Comments: Initially there were no ospreys visible. Partway through, adult (perhaps female) arrived with animated flight. Buzzed a coyote just across the creek from the post. Coyote departed, perhaps with dark object in its mouth. Adult osprey roosted nearby. Note, no sign of chick. Yesterday, chick had been doing much wing flapping with occasional lifts. Seemed ready to fledge.

Other Activity: Nestling no visible crouched low in nest. Adult perched nearby.
Observation Method: visual from house
General Comments: Appears that nestling was crouched low and not visible while female was off foraging. She returned and drove coyote away.
