Nest Name:
ESS-04 - Round Island Platform
Adult Osprey Activity Observed:
Osprey Perched
Location, Date & Time of Observation:
2019-06-06

								2:20 PM to 3:10 PM

						at: Essex
Number of Adults Visible: 2
Number of Nestlings Visible: 0
Number of Fledglings Visible: 0
Weather Conditions: sunny, not too windy
Other Activity: Odd behavior, in the sense that I couldn't figure out the status of the nest. At first it was occupied by the female, soon joined by her mate. Then both birds left the nest and I saw them fishing together over toward Choate Island. The female returned to the nest briefly but did not stay, and the last 15-20 minutes of my stay the nest was unoccupied, which is not a good sign for eggs or small young--and it's too early for the young to be big enough to see. One, possibly two, other osprey(s) flew by, neither anywhere near the nest.
Observation Method: drove to Crane Beach dock and set up scope
General Comments: I'll visit again soon to see if the birds are still occupying this heretofore unsuccessful nest.
