For more than 15 years, Greenbelt has been dedicated to Osprey conservation through the construction and maintenance of nesting platforms, data collection, public education, and collaborative research efforts aimed at protecting this once endangered species. Volunteers submit their sightings online, and the most recent sightings are displayed in real-time.

Weather Conditions: 52 degrees, incredibly windy on the marsh, sunny w/some clouds, high tide, white caps on the waves in the marsh waterways, beautiful day
Other Activity: 1 Osprey perched on the nest. With this wind, it is not surprising that there is some nesting material on the marsh, under the nest. The nest has definitely progressed since last observed. Another osprey and some gulls were soaring the thermals.

Other Activity: Female perched on platform 1 while the male vigorously chased a great blue heron away from the nest.
Observation Method: from bedroom window
General Comments: The ospreys don't like great blue herons and will attack them if they are nearby whether or not the herons are threatening the nest.

Other Activity: Resident female perched on platform 2 and calling loudly. Resident male circling above two intruding ospreys and trying to chase them away. Eventually the resident female also took off and participated in trying to chase the others away. After the intruders flew to the west the resident female landed on platform 1 and the male landed on platform 2.

General Comments: There appears to be nest material, but no birds. I had a better vantage point this time than last time -- I stood on a friend's boat that's up on a cradle at the Greens Point Boatyard. I had a pretty good view of both nearby platforms.
