For more than 15 years, Greenbelt has been dedicated to Osprey conservation through the construction and maintenance of nesting platforms, data collection, public education, and collaborative research efforts aimed at protecting this once endangered species. Volunteers submit their sightings online, and the most recent sightings are displayed in real-time.

General Comments: One adult osprey perched on the rim of the nest. At 12:12 PM a second adult osprey arrived and perched itself on the rim of the nest. Due to the angle and distance of the nest we are unable to see inside the nest.

Other Activity: First Flight! Saw at least two of the young osprey take their first flights from the nest today. They flew to another platform and returned to the nest later. Also saw one of the young feeding itself. Later the adult female fed another of the young.

Other Activity: Following loss of nestling described in previous report, both adults were present and feeding on catch-male on perch, female on nest. Then both adults began short flights to bring sticks and grass with mud to nest -male most active at this.

Other Activity: Two adults and one chick were perched on nest. Both adults lifted off as I approached just to circle over me. The large chick stayed put.

Other Activity: Wow, the chicks are so big. Jack has been bringing in fish on a constant basis, sometimes draping it over the nest perch. The chicks stand below the fish looking up at their dad and begging. The chicks continue to lift their wings ( which are now considerably bigger) and flap.
