Name: Jim Berry

Nest Name:
ESS-04 - Round Island Platform

Adult Osprey Activity Observed:
Osprey Incubating Eggs or Chicks

Location, Date & Time of Observation:
2021-05-07
11:25 to 11:50
at: Essex

Number of Adults Visible: 2

Number of Nestlings Visible: 0

Number of Fledglings Visible: 0

Weather Conditions: NE wind, sunny, cool (I was looking to the SW).

Other Activity: I found Don Paquin of TTOR staff at the boat dock. He told me he first saw the pair on the nest a week ago, Friday 4/30. Today we saw the pair on the nest, the female there all the time, the male making at least 3 landings. I didn't see him bring anything to the nest. The female was standing and sitting alternately, as if she were laying but not sure she wanted to incubate yet--it was hard to interpret her behavior. But she was excited when the male landed. On one of the landings it appeared that he landed on her and copulated, but I couldn't be positive due to the distance, even looking thru the scope.

Observation Method: On foot from boat landing, using bins and scope.

General Comments: Let's hope this pair is finally able to bring off some young this year!

Name: Nancy Perry

Nest Name:
BOX-01 - Carter Fields-Pine Tree

Adult Osprey Activity Observed:
Osprey Incubating Eggs or Chicks

Location, Date & Time of Observation:
2021-05-07
06:13 PM. to 07:20 PM.
at: Boxford

Number of Adults Visible: 2

Number of Nestlings Visible: 0

Number of Fledglings Visible: 0

Weather Conditions: 55℉ Mostly cloudy with some sun; light intermittent wind

Other Activity: One adult on nest; one on branch near tree; latter flew away after about 15 minutes and did not return before I left (about 1 hour); 3 crows approached the nest; osprey did not move or make any noise or even seem bothered; after a few minutes the crows lost interest & left

Observation Method: On foot

General Comments: Just perused other reports...it should be mentioned that the nest from last year, presumably for this pair, has disappeared. It was on a very high dead tree & nothing now can be seen which resembles a nest there. After checking around the area, I finally spotted a new nest on a much shorter tree. It is East of the previous one and is difficult to see. Wish we had seen them building this nest! In any case, there is a pair. One of them is undoubtedly sitting on egg(s) now.

Name: Stan Franzeen

Nest Name:
SLM-02 - Danvers River Transmission Tower

Adult Osprey Activity Observed:
Osprey Incubating Eggs or Chicks

Location, Date & Time of Observation:
2021-05-06
2:00 PM to 2:20 PM
at: Salem

Number of Adults Visible: 2

Number of Nestlings Visible: 0

Number of Fledglings Visible: 0

Weather Conditions: 45F, windy - 15-20mph, sunny

Other Activity: One OSPR was incubating; a 2nd OSPR flew in and sat on the top of the tower for a few mins before flying away and returning to land on a lower rung of the tower. His mate could not be seen until he landed - then she stood up a bit and could be seen greeting her mate before settling out of sight again.

Observation Method: foot

General Comments: The nest has clearly settled and the interior incubating area is not visible from afar. The only way to determine if an OSPR is incubating on this nest is to wait until she decides to stretch - or if her mate appears.
