Other Activity: Pair perched most of the time on the nest on platform 1. Another female osprey approached the nest and hovered close above the pair. After a few seconds the resident male took off to challenge the intruding female and drove it away. On returning to the nest the male mated with the female and then flew to platform 2. Later the female flew to platform 2 and the pair perched there for a long time.
Observation Method: from living room window
General Comments: Since the fight in which two birds ended up in the marsh there has been a lot of mating and very little nest-building. Also alot of time has been spent perching together on platform 2. This is a big change in behavior which makes me think that the original resident pair that defended the nest platform for a long time and engaged in mating and semi-active nest-building has been replaced by a new, young pair. The amount of material on the nest is still quite sparse. Time will tell on whether this pair gets into serious nest-building, etc.
