For more than 15 years, Greenbelt has been dedicated to Osprey conservation through the construction and maintenance of nesting platforms, data collection, public education, and collaborative research efforts aimed at protecting this once endangered species. Volunteers submit their sightings online, and the most recent sightings are displayed in real-time.

Other Activity: We have watched these birds daily since they arrived back in early April. We’ve seen copulation, nest defense, theft of a fish by a bald eagle, nest building, feeding, perching on the salt marsh surface.

Observation Method: From our house windows

General Comments: These birds seem fully committed to this nest site. They may well have eggs. We have seen copulation at times over the past 10 days. The female is on the nest most of the day. The male stands off much of the time, but he visits the nest periodically. Both birds bring nest material.

Other Activity: On the Round Island nest, one osprey was up on the perch and the other down in the nest for the 30 minutes I observed and thus selected incubating eggs. 15 turkeys, mostly males made their way down Argilla and into the marsh.

Observation Method: Through scope from Argilla near the Crane Beach entry.

Weather Conditions: 41 F, 90 percent cloud cover, WNW 6 MPH

Other Activity: One osprey was down in the nest the whole time I checked. The second was down in the marsh nearby, but I couldn't see it until I observed a second time from near Fox Creek.

Observation Method: Scoped from Argilla near Crane Beach entrance and then near Fox Creek.

General Comments: There is no longer a post at Brophy in the marsh or on the platform (or not visible on the platform) for the second bird to perch.
