For more than 15 years, Greenbelt has been dedicated to Osprey conservation through the construction and maintenance of nesting platforms, data collection, public education, and collaborative research efforts aimed at protecting this once endangered species. Volunteers submit their sightings online, and the most recent sightings are displayed in real-time.

Other Activity: one large juv perched at the nest - flew away and then returned; a second juv flew in; one adult perched at the nest, then flew to the old frame east of the platform; a second adult flew in with a huge fish and took it down into the grass to feed itself

General Comments: I've checked in a few times during the last 3-4 hours and have only noticed one fledgling in the nest (the youngest?). I hope the other two were mature enough to start fishing on their own and that the youngest will still be getting some fish from at least one adult/parent.

Weather Conditions: Sunny, cool temps after severe thunderstorms the night before. Times are approximate as I was out paddle boarding in the harbor

Other Activity: One young osprey perched on edge of nest continuously flapping wings. He/she did not fly. Birds were squeaking as we approached base of tower on paddle boards.

Weather Conditions: Sunny, light wind, cooler temperatures after very severe thunderstorms last night

Other Activity: One small osprey perched on nest. He/she flew off as I approached on paddle board. Flew over to channel marker 3 and joined another small osprey. Paddled around in harbor and watched 4 osprey - 2 larger and 2 smaller flying overhead in circular pattern.

Observation Method: Paddleboarding in harbor - paddled down to national grid tower nest too.

General Comments: When the 4 osprey were circling overhead the underside of their wings were beautiful. I could not tell if it was a lesson for the family to learn to hunt/fish.

Other Activity: Observed two adults flying and calling near the nest - I think this was more flight demonstrations for the little one... I suspect it has fledged but I have not yet seen an empty nest. The adults were flying circles near the nest, over land, so obviously not fishing. At one point the two adults flew off and the fledgling climbed back into the nest and was resting.

Other Activity: It appeared to be one young osprey perched in nest. Flapped wings a few times.

Weather Conditions: Humid 92 degrees partial sun. light wind

Other Activity: One adult and one smaller osprey in next. One adult flew from tower, caught a fish and returned to tower to eat it. The birds were making squealing sounds and appeared to notice us on the beach near the base of the tower.

Observation Method: On foot at the beach at the end of Osgood Street with binoculars. Low tide.
