Osprey Monitoring & Sightings

Where are Osprey Nesting?

For more than 15 years, Greenbelt has been dedicated to Osprey conservation through the construction and maintenance of nesting platforms, data collection, public education, and collaborative research efforts aimed at protecting this once endangered species. Volunteers submit their sightings online, and the most recent sightings are displayed in real-time.

Name: Eve Grissinger

Nest Name:
GLO-03 - Farm Creek Platform

Adult Osprey Activity Observed:
Osprey Perched

Location, Date & Time of Observation:
2022-07-14
6:52 AM to 7:15 AM
at: Gloucester

Number of Adults Visible: 1

Number of Nestlings Visible: 0

Number of Fledglings Visible: 0

Weather Conditions: 66 degrees F. Cloudy, almost overcast. Breezy; light sprinkle of rain now and then

Other Activity: One Osprey observed sitting low in the nest - could just see its head popping up and down and moving every minute or so. No other activity. Still no apparent fledgling/nestling activity from this vantage - as others have speculated if there are eggs they may be sterile.

Observation Method: on foot (with binoculars)

General Comments: I can just see GLO-02 - WINGARSHEEK SALT MARSH PLATFORM from my vantage, off in the distance. I couldn't be sure even with my binoculars but it looked like there might have be a second Osprey over on the GLO-2 platform - as others have indicated in the past this pair seems to possibly go back and forth between these two sites.

Weather Conditions: Clear, 75, light breeze

Other Activity: Big doings at the nest!!! At first, both adults were on the nest, F feeding the nestlings. M flew off and returned with a fish. One of the nestlings grabbed at it and then went back to feeding. M flew off with the fish. Then F flew off. Both nestlings took turns flapping and hopping... Id guess they are going to fledge soon. They are big and healthy looking... nearly as big as the parents. It was amazing to watch them practice flying!!

Observation Method: On foot from Indy Park. Binocs.
