For more than 15 years, Greenbelt has been dedicated to Osprey conservation through the construction and maintenance of nesting platforms, data collection, public education, and collaborative research efforts aimed at protecting this once endangered species. Other Activity: As in my sighting on 3/29, I observed one male Osprey. When we arrived this time, he was perched on the small platform next to the higher platform with the nest rather than on top of the nest. He was there for the first 45 minutes we were watching from Smith Island. Then he flew up the the higher platform and again perched on, not in, the nest.

General Comments: There is a broken board end (the first one you come to on the right over the stream) which needs repair because it is a bit hazardous now.

Weather Conditions: 51 degrees; partly cloudy; windy; low tide
Other Activity: The male and female osprey were observed perched together on the perch pole that is separate from the nest. They then sat together on the nest for approximately10 minutes.
Observation Method: On foot with binoculars.
General Comments: The male osprey spent some time on the nest poking the nesting material while the female was sitting on the marsh grass in one spot approximately 75 yards away. Then the male flew away.

Other Activity: Male sitting in edge of nest, seen several times flying off gathering sticks. Very vocal, but did not see any other Osprey around. So exciting to see, just returned home from vacation and saw him. 4 days earlier than last year I believe.
