For more than 15 years, Greenbelt has been dedicated to Osprey conservation through the construction and maintenance of nesting platforms, data collection, public education, and collaborative research efforts aimed at protecting this once endangered species. Volunteers submit their sightings online, and the most recent sightings are displayed in real-time.

Other Activity: The adult osprey was perched high on a nearby tree and didn't move off of that perch for the entire time I observed. I watched the next but could not see any movement in the nest. I could not tell if the nest was empty or if the nestlings were just very quiet today.

Observation Method: On foot with spotting scope.

Other Activity: The male was sitting on the pole perch facing away from the platform.

Observation Method: On foot with binoculars

General Comments: Female was sitting in the center of the nest, and then she sat on the nest perch as if making room for nestlings (which are not visible since the nest is so deep).

Other Activity: 1 bird on nest when I arrived. Then the other returned with a fish and the nestling popped up

Other Activity: Mother osprey was on nest with two chicks, now easily visible over the nest side. She also picked up sticks from the ground and added them to the nest. The chicks appear to be about 4 weeks old.
