For more than 15 years, Greenbelt has been dedicated to Osprey conservation through the construction and maintenance of nesting platforms, data collection, public education, and collaborative research efforts aimed at protecting this once endangered species. Volunteers submit their sightings online, and the most recent sightings are displayed in real-time.

Observation Method: Bushwhacking into the marsh from Jacob’s Park

General Comments: The entire marsh area was eerily quiet.

Other Activity: Female in nest / Male perched at mid-level on light tower. This pair was missing when monitoring the prior week.

Observation Method: Walked way out to the rear - left of the parking area to get a glimpse of the nesting female. She was deep, deep inside the nest.

Weather Conditions: 77° / High clouds / Wind stronger - 10+mph

Other Activity: Just as happened earlier today at Belle Isle Park (EAB-02) - Stronger winds - Female nesting. Male was out and about hunting. Swung to the northeast side of the nest and dove into water behind tall grasses. Flew up with a fish and then headed south, past the nest, swung around to fly into the wind and landed gracefully on nest with female to feed. Another awesome sight! Another osprey was sighted in the area.

Observation Method: Walked through cut in fence off of Rt. 107 pull off area to walk to river’s edge.

Weather Conditions: 75° / high clouds / wind = NE 7+mph with gusts to 16mph

Other Activity: Female nesting. Male was out and about hunting. Swung to the northeast side of the nest and dove into water behind tall grasses. Flew up with a fish and then headed south, past the nest, swung around to fly into the wind and landed gracefully on nest with female to feed. Awesome sight!

Observation Method: Walked out to viewing platform.

Observation Method: Osprey wasn’t visible from the normal viewing location. Moved around the rail yard approx. 30 yards and bushwhacked to a better location.
