Nest Name:
SAL-01 - Rings Island Platforms
Adult Osprey Activity Observed:
Osprey Feeding Chicks
Location, Date & Time of Observation:
2024-07-23
06:30 AM to 06:45 AM
at: Salisbury
Number of Adults Visible: 2
Number of Nestlings Visible: 3
Number of Fledglings Visible: 0
Weather Conditions: 70 degrees, calm, cloudy
Other Activity: The resident male delivered a fish to the nest and then perched on platform 3. The female was feeding all three nestlings. They are well-developed and have been flapping their wings, but none of them have fledged yet.
Observation Method: from bedroom window
General Comments: The male is a good provider, but typically first brings a fish to his perch on platform 3 and feeds on it first while the female calls repeatedly for him to bring the fish to the nest. Eventually he responds and brings a partly eaten fish to the nest for the female to feed to the chicks. She often begs for a long time before he responds.

Other Activity:
Observation Method: On foot with scope.
General Comments: Great to see that third chick again, but it's progressing at a much slower pace than the other ones. I have yet to see it up and flapping its wings. In fact, it is rarely even up. It would be good to put some eyes on this nest up close and determine what's actually going on. On a side note, there's an old snag to the right of the nest where today I counted 53 Barn Swallows hanging out. Very cool! Love the swallows!
