ESS-03 - Great Bank Platform
Adult Osprey Activity Observed:
Osprey Perched
Location, Date & Time of Observation:
2026-06-16
12:00 PM to 12:15 PM
at: Essex
Number of Adults Visible: 2
Number of Nestlings Visible: 2
Number of Fledglings Visible:
Weather Conditions: About 70 degrees, 10+ MPH, mostly sunny, choppy on the water and a 9.1 high tide today
Other Activity: It was too windy and choppy to observe the nest on the way over. When I first pulled into the marsh, I could see both adults perched in the nest and 2 chicks. I tried to come in as far as the duck hut to see better, but both osprey flew off the nest, so I went back to my original spot and they returned. Both adults stayed perched, but the chicks did not reappear. First day seeing chicks here this season
Observation Method: By kayak from Island Road

Number of Adults Visible: 3
Number of Nestlings Visible: 3
Number of Fledglings Visible:
Weather Conditions: About 70 degrees, 10+ MPH, mostly sunny, choppy on the water and a 9.1 high tide today
Other Activity: 1 adult was perched in the nest with the 3 chicks, but 2 other osprey came in close to the nest before flying off. The chicks are still all dark, but look like they have a white band down the back when they are lying down with backs to me. They lifted their wings a couple of times and stood up a few times. They look pretty close in size.
Observation Method: By kayak from Island Road
