For more than 15 years, Greenbelt has been dedicated to Osprey conservation through the construction and maintenance of nesting platforms, data collection, public education, and collaborative research efforts aimed at protecting this once endangered species. Volunteers submit their sightings online, and the most recent sightings are displayed in real-time.

Other Activity: male perched on marsh grasses quite away further from the platform than in prior visits to this platform.

Observation Method: Walked through park to edge of marsh. Scope/binoculars

General Comments: Needed scope for better view of nest - in hope there was a nestling hatched.

Other Activity: Single Osprey perched on edge of nest. Flew off after approx. 10 minutes of observation. No others observed in the same approx. area.

Observation Method: Parking on route 107 pull up area walked out to edge of river with scope.

Other Activity: When I arrived there was an Osprey perched high on the nest. The other Osprey soon arrived and looked like he may have been feeding nestlings which were not visible. After this, he left nest and perched on adjacent pole.

Other Activity: One Osprey (female?) was on nest sitting high in nest when I arrived. The other Osprey arrived a few minutes later. Some wing flapping and he put his beak into the nest as if he might be feeding nestlings. After that he left nest and perched on adjacent post

General Comments: What prompts the osprey to perch on adjacent pole or lower stand? I've seen this behavior a lot.

Other Activity: At start of visit the adult had her head down in the nest a lot, possibly feeding, or feeding young. Mom spent the whole time perched on the nest. I was able to count two nestlings who would appear occasionally.

Observation Method: On foot with spotting scope.
