For more than 15 years, Greenbelt has been dedicated to Osprey conservation through the construction and maintenance of nesting platforms, data collection, public education, and collaborative research efforts aimed at protecting this once endangered species. Volunteers submit their sightings online, and the most recent sightings are displayed in real-time.

Weather Conditions: Partly cloudy and winds less than 5 MPH

Other Activity: Observed juvenile flying low over the water; returned to the nest a small fish; however, a blackback gull chased the juvenile with the fish well away from the nest. Eventually the juvenile returned to the next and was successful in evading the gull and its meal.

General Comments: The fledging is fast becoming independent. With the mother gone and the father coming in with an occasional fish, the fledging is doing a great job soaring around the marsh and taking a bath in the salt panne. He no longer sleeps in the nest. Haven’t seen him bring in his own fish yet.

Other Activity: 1 adult perched on the driftwood tree branch in marsh. 1 adult on pier piling flew into the river twice to wash off then flew up and dove down to get a fish but missed, then flew of up the river. 2 fledglings in nest then one flew down to a piling, then adult flew down there too. Then flew backup to nest with the fledgling in it
