For more than 15 years, Greenbelt has been dedicated to Osprey conservation through the construction and maintenance of nesting platforms, data collection, public education, and collaborative research efforts aimed at protecting this once endangered species. Volunteers submit their sightings online, and the most recent sightings are displayed in real-time.

Other Activity: This was an interesting visit. One osprey in nest, then two...they mated. Two other osprey were screaming in the marsh, swooping and flying at a 3 year old bald eagle who was just sitting there...maybe eating a fish. Eventually the osprey calmed down, although the eagle stayed....two of the osprey flew to a tree area to the left of the nest, still calling out.

General Comments: Well, hard to believe, but have confirmed 2nd observer. Osprey on perch; 2nd osprey landed on top of first just stood looking around.

Weather Conditions: 61 degrees, high tide and turning, sunny, light breeze.

Other Activity: When I arrived, a male osprey was sitting on the marsh perch eating a fish. He was eating slow and methodically. In between bites he was glance up at the sky...three retail hawks fighting in a pine tree nearby and a bald eagle fly over got his attention. After about 20 minutes, he looked up and in came the female. As she approached, he flew to the nest momentarily, she flew in, also on the nest and followed him. The home owner told me that she saw them yesterday too and that was the first time she had seen them on the nest this year. Male is silver banded on right leg.

Other Activity: Both osprey on nest which is huge and at nest 3-4' deep with nesting material. One went down to the marsh perch and both were preening.
