Name: Amy Howell

Nest Name:
ROW-07 - Sawyers Island Platform

Adult Osprey Activity Observed:
Osprey Perched

Location, Date & Time of Observation:
2019-04-29
11:33 AM to 12:05 PM
at: Rowley

Number of Adults Visible: 2

Number of Nestlings Visible: 0

Number of Fledglings Visible: 0

Weather Conditions: 54 degrees, sunny, some clouds, breezy on the marsh, high tide, beautiful, sun sheen over towards Plum Island

Other Activity: Heard Osprey chirps/calls, saw a messy nest, the female was perched on the marsh at the base of the nest. Male flew in & mated w/female on the marsh, then he flew a short ways & perched on the marsh. The male later flew up and perched on the marsh perch. At 11:50 AM, both Osprey flew - the female perched on the nest & the male circled, then mated with the female on the nest and flew to perch on the marsh a ways off to the right of the nest. The female stayed perched/standing on the edge of the nest. No incubating observed.

Observation Method: on foot, on the marsh

General Comments: This is a new beginning this season, the female of the nest died last year. Either the male returned and has found a new mate or this may be a new Osprey couple. Hoping for a good outcome.

Name: Christine Morabito

Nest Name:
NPT-03 - Woodbridge Island Duck Blind #1

Adult Osprey Activity Observed:
Osprey Perched

Location, Date & Time of Observation:
2019-04-29
12:14 PM to 12:35 PM
at: Newburyport

Number of Adults Visible: 1

Number of Nestlings Visible: 0

Number of Fledglings Visible: 0

Weather Conditions: 52 degrees, sunny, wind 13 mph

Other Activity: Several Osprey flying in area. Two birds appeared to be flying together. One of these several landed on nest. Visibility was poor from my vantage point, even with a scope. Unfortunately, I did not get a chance to view nest from restaurant before business hours.

Observation Method: On foot

General Comments: Lots of osprey activity in area with several nearby nests. It's often difficult to determine which pair is which when in flight. Much easier, obviously, when perched at nest site.

Adult Osprey Activity Observed:
Osprey Perched

Number of Fledglings Visible: 0

Weather Conditions: 52 degrees, sunny, wind 13 mph

Other Activity: Bird one standing on nest, bird 2 perched on "daddy perch" nearby. Bird 2 flew off. Several osprey flying in area. Two of them appeared to be flying together. One bird landed on nearby nest (NPT03).

Observation Method: On foot

General Comments: Lots of osprey flying in area. There are several nearby nests, so it's often difficult to keep track of pairs unless they are perched at nest site. I guess lots of osprey activity is a good problem to have!

Other Activity: lots of action: when I arrived one bird was perched at nest, two birds were flying and chasing each other right over the nest; then those two flew a short distance away and put down on the marsh grasses, not far from each other; finally one flew up to the nest, attempted to copulate, but the intruder returned as well and harassed the pair; it left, they copulated, the male flew away, and the female tended to something in the nest, then settled in - in incubating position? could she have an egg and still spend as much time off of it as she did?

Observation Method: on foot

General Comments: there's another platform with nest across the river - Hog Island? a pair was there - one at the nest, one on the nest perch; is this platform being monitored?
