For more than 15 years, Greenbelt has been dedicated to Osprey conservation through the construction and maintenance of nesting platforms, data collection, public education, and collaborative research efforts aimed at protecting this once endangered species. Other Activity: Chaces Island platform: none at nest, but three Osprey perched on pilings a little east of platform platform west of that, on four posts: one Osprey perched at edge of nest, second Osprey down in marsh grasses nearby and platform west of that one, which looks like a big wood cage with vegetation growing on top: one Osprey perched amid the vegetation on top, two more Osprey down in marsh grasses a little east of that soooo, eight Osprey in area, seen from my observation spot; lots of boating/fishing activity in the water

Other Activity: first ten minutes no Osprey at nest site or in area; then one flew in, perched at nest edge; second one flew in, third flew in carrying a fish, fourth Osprey flew in; there was a lot of scuffling, wing flapping, circling around the nest, then all four flew away

Other Activity: Osprey in nest appears to be feeding nestlings; other activity included a the second Osprey sometimes on the post perch, sometimes perched at the nest, sometimes away; and at one point two more Osprey strafed the nest and aroused the pair there, but then flew away

Other Activity: As usual, the female was here early. The male joined her mid morning. Around noon, they flew off and came back with 2 large fish and had lunch on their respective marsh perches.

Other Activity: Female perched on wire. 10 ft from nest. Male went back and forth with twigs. Female never moved. Nothing happening in the nest except new twigs. Failure?

Other Activity: Female incubated part of the time then fed briefly. Male left and retd twice with twigs and eventually left and retd with fish which he started eating on nearby piling. Female was incubating in the meantime. Possibility of another young but visibility was hindered by the wind.

Weather Conditions: 66 degrees, sunny w/clouds, crazy wind gusts, low tide, nearing full moon
Other Activity: From a distance, I could see the nest was a wreck. No Ospreys in sight. Went out to the platform to investigate. At the base I found lots of nesting material, the remains of an adult Osprey (numerous Osprey brown & white feathers of all sizes- in one large oval area & some bones) also a hollowed out empty Osprey egg shell. GHO predation. There were other Osprey nest treasures as well, including 3 little plastic flag markers that people put up in their yards to mark where seed was planted/treated - 1 green, 1 red, 1 yellow, and a 12 inch one piece marine item made of woven, medium weight rope.
Observation Method: on foot, walking on the marsh all the way to the platform base.
General Comments: This sad situation was discovered on June 7, 2018 as well.
