For more than 15 years, Greenbelt has been dedicated to Osprey conservation through the construction and maintenance of nesting platforms, data collection, public education, and collaborative research efforts aimed at protecting this once endangered species. Volunteers submit their sightings online, and the most recent sightings are displayed in real-time.

Other Activity: One adult (male, I think) was sitting inside nest with head dipping down frequently; adult flew away and came back a very short time later; flew away again and other adult (female?) flew in carrying something; she stayed inside nest with head bobbing up and down, possibly feeding something in nest; once she picked up her head, extended her neck and appeared to regurgitate; then continued to bob head up and down, apparently feeding something unseen by me; finally she just stayed still on the nest for many minutes, seemingly resting

Observation Method: on foot

General Comments: The first adult seemed almost black on breast with a little white (male?). The second adult had more white on the breast, but no "necklace" was observed (female?).

Other Activity: one osprey on platform perch, other one standing on edge of nest. Saw 2 nestling heads peak above the nest for a short time. Osprey on perch took off and flew down river towards ocean. Remaing osprey then laid down inside nest

Weather Conditions: 66 degrees, cloudy, wind 6 mph

Other Activity: Bird 1 on nest, walking around. 2 chick heads visible. After about 1/2 hour, Bird 1 left nest and flew to nearby perch. Preened. Chicks not visible at that time. 20 minutes later bird 1 flew back to nest as bird 2 flew in with fish. Bird 2 was identified as a male based on plumage. Both stood on nest. Bird 1 took fish and ate/fed chicks. Bird 2 flew to nearby perch and preened.

Other Activity: YES: companion OSPR was perched on one of the tower rungs below the nest.

General Comments: Thrilled to see the male back with the family. First sighting in at least a month.
