For more than 15 years, Greenbelt has been dedicated to Osprey conservation through the construction and maintenance of nesting platforms, data collection, public education, and collaborative research efforts aimed at protecting this once endangered species. Volunteers submit their sightings online, and the most recent sightings are displayed in real-time.

General Comments: The osprey on the marsh appeared to be harrassed by three turkey vultures. Vultures flew off osprey flew to nest and settled in.

Other Activity: Bird 1 was perched in snag near nest. Bird 2 (while not initially visible) stood up from nest and stretched after about 40 minutes. Bird 2 flew to nearby snag and almost immediately back to nest. Bird 1 flew to nest and pair copulated. Then Bird 2 settled back onto nest, this time being more visible.

Weather Conditions: 55 degrees, clear, calm

Other Activity: Domestic tranquility restored. The female is sitting deep on the nest and may have eggs. The male was perched on the canoe rack beneath the nest, then moved to the perch on the nest and moved again to perch on platform 2.

Observation Method: from bedroom window

General Comments: Yesterday's conflict continued for over 6 hours with 7 adult ospreys continuously involved. Late in the day the resident female was sitting deep in the nest as intruders flew around and occasionally attempted unsuccessfully to drive her off the nest. Meanwhile the resident male was continuously involved in chasing and screaming at the other 5 intruders.

Other Activity: Female perched on edge of nest, male perched on nearby piling. Female fluttered her wings and another osprey flew close by. The intruder flew by again then left. Later the male on the piling flew over to the nest then left, returned, and left again.

Other Activity: One incubating, the other down below on rocks eating. When finished eating the one below swapped place with the one incubating. The one relieved perched on the rocks.

Weather Conditions: 51 degrees, sunny, beautiful, some puffy clouds, plenty of clouds coming from the west, breezes, low tide

Other Activity: 1 Osprey incubating, facing the nest perch. 2nd Osprey perched on the marsh, to the right of the nest - traded chirps w/incubating Osprey. 3rd Osprey w/fish, soared off to the right side of the nest area. Lots of flyers, including a RTH over the trees, some fisher birds. Sun sheen over by Great Bank.

General Comments: Nest: Essex 07 (new platform) needs to be added the "drop down" menu of Nest Names on this Monitoring Form, when you get a chance. Thanks! I can see the platform from ESS 02.
