at: Boxford
Number of Adults Visible: 1
Number of Nestlings Visible: 0
Number of Fledglings Visible: 1
Weather Conditions: 82℉ slight breeze; mostly sunny
Other Activity: Only two osprey present - one adult (female, I think) & one fledgling/baby; fledgling on nest, flapping wings & trying to fly; would get a few inches above nest and then drop back in; once he/she got 2-3 feet above nest but dropped back into nest again; meanwhile, female adult was perched on branch of nearby tree, watching baby try to fly; chirps she made sounded alternately like encouragement and scolding; despite trying so hard, baby did not fly before I had to leave
Observation Method: On foot
General Comments: Not sure exactly when a '''baby" is called a "fledgling". Is it when they can actually fly or when they are trying to fly? Therefore my description of the one youngster remaining may be a nestling, not a fledgling.

Other Activity: We had up to 8 osprey circling and calling over the Ring's Island platforms and along the river last night for more than two hours. Osprey would come and go, but there were usually at least 5 osprey circling at any time. The local residents occasionally perched on the nest platform or on platform 3. We also are pretty sure that we saw the local fledgling return to the platform with a fish. Maybe its first catch as it flew from platform to platform clutching the fish (but not eating it) for more than an hour.
