Where are Osprey Nesting?

For more than 15 years, Greenbelt has been dedicated to Osprey conservation through the construction and maintenance of nesting platforms, data collection, public education, and collaborative research efforts aimed at protecting this once endangered species. Volunteers submit their sightings online, and the most recent sightings are displayed in real-time.

Other Activity: One Osprey in the nest. Later another Osprey was flying low over the marsh for quite a ways before landing up on the edge of the nest. Wonderful to see this pair together!

Observation Method: on foot, on the marsh, no boat ramp in place yet

General Comments: The presence of several Great Black-backed Gulls noted

General Comments: Ollie landed on the nest with sticks and started fixing up the nest. Olivia was watching from a nearby tree.

General Comments: Ollie was in the nest and two construction trucks drove past the pole that the nest is on. Ollie did not leave the nest.

Observation Method: On foot

General Comments: The female Osprey arrived and the two stayed on platform one for a few minutes. Then, as per protocol, they socially distanced and the male flew over to platform 2.

General Comments: The male was perched on platform 2, the female had just landed on platform one when a juvenile eagle flew over the marsh towards the platforms. The two Osprey flew towards the eagle as a flock of seagulls divebombed the eagle. The eagle flew off and now both Osprey are perched on platform 1
