Protecting 34 Acres in Boxford & North Andover

Old Barn Farm Property Features Active Farmland, Wildlife Habitat, and Scenic Land
Greenbelt has an exciting opportunity to acquire and permanently protect the Old Barn Farm property, approximately 34 acres of vital farmland, wildlife habitat, and scenic land in Boxford (28 acres) and North Andover (6 acres). This property represents nearly one-third of the remaining unprotected acreage at Barker Farm — a historic working farm and orchard in continuous operation since 1642 — as well as adjoining wildlife habitat and wetlands.

Conserving this land will enable Greenbelt to:
- Lease farmland to local farmers through affordable, secure agreements that support long-term agricultural viability and productivity;
- Steward 10 acres as wildlife habitat, expanding Greenbelt’s abutting Carter Fields Conservation Area and creating new public trail access;
- Protect wetlands that help sustain the health of nearby Lake Cochichewick and safeguard local drinking water quality;
- Strengthen climate resilience and preserve the ecological integrity of the landscape for generations to come.
