NextGen Community

Greenbelt’s new NextGen community brings together young go-getters and changemakers who care deeply about land conservation, the environment, and ensuring equitable access to nature across Essex County. Designed to be welcoming and action-oriented, the group offers opportunities for participants to connect with like-minded peers, learn from Greenbelt staff, and make a meaningful impact — all while having a bit of fun along the way. Our gatherings may include naturalist hikes, brewery meet-ups, volunteer stewardship projects, boat cruises, and other unique events coordinated by the NextGen Committee.

NextGen Committee
To help realize our vision for a dynamic NextGen community at Greenbelt, a governance committee was formed last year to brainstorm activities and initiatives that would engage younger supporters. NextGen Committee members are invited to a one-year term (with the option to renew) and actively engage with Greenbelt’s mission by attending regular meetings, organizing NextGen events, staying up to date on programs and initiatives, and sharing information within their networks. Members also support Greenbelt through volunteerism, donations, and community engagement efforts.
In addition, members enjoy exclusive social events and gain access to mentorship opportunities with the Greenbelt Board of Directors, providing valuable connections and hands-on experience in conservation leadership.
