Other Activity: So happy to see one adult Osprey perched on the marsh perch and one adult Osprey in the nest bowl - head visible. The last couple of times I visited, I was left wondering how this nesting season was going. All appears to be well! Neighbors have enjoyed watching the Ospreys fish and carrying the fish.

Name: Nancy Perry

Nest Name:
BOX-01 - Carter Fields-Pine Tree

Adult Osprey Activity Observed:
Osprey Incubating Eggs or Chicks

Location, Date & Time of Observation:
2020-05-30
05:01 PM. to 08:13 PM.
at: Boxford

Number of Adults Visible: 2

Number of Nestlings Visible: 0

Number of Fledglings Visible: 0

Weather Conditions: Mostly sunny with few clouds; calm; 79 ℉

Other Activity: One adult on nest (male, I think), head bobbing above the nest rim occasionally but mostly nothing could be seen; after a long time, other adult (female?) flew onto nest; adults immediately changed places; the one leaving nest sat many minutes on dead tree beside the nest and finally flew off; adult on nest ate for several minutes before settling down quietly on nest; did not appear to be feeding anything else; much later adult (male?) flew back briefly onto nest but then flew away again

Observation Method: On foot

General Comments: Because I was looking through the monocular when the female (?) flew onto nest, I did not see if she was carrying anything. But I think that she must have brought something to nest because she started eating immediately after the male (?) flew to next tree. He did not eat.

Other Activity: Both parents are perched on the nest. The female is feeding herself and also appears to be feeding a chick deep in the nest. The chick is not visible, but both parents are looking into the nest and appear to be admiring their offspring.

Observation Method: from bedroom window

General Comments: 2020-05-29 The male osprey has been chasing all kinds of intruders away regularly. I've recently seen the male chase a bald eagle, a turkey vulture and a great white egret. I've also seen it chasing away another female osprey that is regularly visiting and hovering above the nest and the resident female until the male chases it away. The intruding female often perches on platform 3 and the resident male attacks and tries to make her fly away--usually successfully after a few diving attacks. The male also chases great blue herons that are flying and tries to chase herons that land in the creek. Typically the herons stand their ground when attacked while in the creek
