Other Activity: the female was perched at the nest with 3 nestlings when a red-tailed hawk started to fly past across the marsh. The female immediately attacked the hawk and forced it to land near the nest to take cover in the marsh grass. The female returned to the nest and then dove at the hawk several times, never quite hitting it, but coming within a couple of feet. Each time the female returned to perch on the nest. The male osprey then flew toward the nest and the female dove again at the hawk. The male followed suit and attacked the hawk a number of times, getting close enough to force the hawk to try to fly away. Then both ospreys chased the hawk, diving at it repeatedly, hitting it a couple of times, knocking it lower in the air, but not to the ground. As the hawk fled past the second platform, the ospreys ceased their chase and both returned to the nest.
