Four other adult ospreys (2 males and 2 females) approached the area and the resident male challenged them and attempted to drive them off. One of the intruders, a female, approached the nest and hovered for about 10 seconds a few feet directly above the perched resident female. The resident female called loudly, flapped her wings and rose a foot or two to fend off the intruder. The loud calling and chasing continued for about 15 minutes until finally the intruders flew off to the south. Three of them returned about 15 minutes later and sparked another bout of calling and chasing.
