For more than 15 years, Greenbelt has been dedicated to Osprey conservation through the construction and maintenance of nesting platforms, data collection, public education, and collaborative research efforts aimed at protecting this once endangered species. Volunteers submit their sightings online, and the most recent sightings are displayed in real-time.

Other Activity: female perched on nest with 3 fledglings, male perched on platform 3. One of fledglings testing its wings for a long time and finally lifted off and was almost blown off the nest. Four other adult ospreys (2 males and 2 females) approached the area and the resident male challenged them and attempted to drive them off. One of the intruders, a female, approached the nest and hovered for about 10 seconds a few feet directly above the perched resident female. The resident female called loudly, flapped her wings and rose a foot or two to fend off the intruder. The loud calling and chasing continued for about 15 minutes until finally the intruders flew off to the south. Three of them returned about 15 minutes later and sparked another bout of calling and chasing.

Other Activity: Male was perched on a light, young only stirred when female brought fish to nest, but then she left with the fish. She returned 20 minutes later and dropped off the fish and left again. The male fed the young.
