For more than 15 years, Greenbelt has been dedicated to Osprey conservation through the construction and maintenance of nesting platforms, data collection, public education, and collaborative research efforts aimed at protecting this once endangered species. Volunteers submit their sightings online, and the most recent sightings are displayed in real-time.

Other Activity: No osprey present. Only a very few sticks remaining on the platform. On my way to island I had seen what looked like the beginnings of a osprey nest on a power pole on the roadside about a quarter of a mile from the road end and island parking. I was not there on my last visit. In talking to a neighbor who lives close by, another attempt to building on the same pole had been removed by "Audubon" some two months earlier. Was it the Sawyer's pair looking for a "safer" site ??

Other Activity: The largest and the mid sized juveniles were perched. The largest left, the mid sized flapped wildly but got no elevation. A few minutes later it lifted off and left the nest. It made a circle around the nest and returned. The largest also returned to the nest.
