For more than 15 years, Greenbelt has been dedicated to Osprey conservation through the construction and maintenance of nesting platforms, data collection, public education, and collaborative research efforts aimed at protecting this once endangered species. Volunteers submit their sightings online, and the most recent sightings are displayed in real-time.

General Comments: My neighbor Diane Dondero saw two osprey perched on the platform on Thursday of last week. She just told me yesterday. They are there again today and I saw them with binoculars. No sign of nest-building.

Other Activity: The pair is spending more time building a nest. There seems to be less contention over the nest, but again today a large intruding female came and hovered over the nest for a while while the resident female protested. As the intruding female glided away the resident male came after her. She circled and turned tables on the male and threatened him. Eventually they both flew away circling each other.
