For more than 15 years, Greenbelt has been dedicated to Osprey conservation through the construction and maintenance of nesting platforms, data collection, public education, and collaborative research efforts aimed at protecting this once endangered species. Volunteers submit their sightings online, and the most recent sightings are displayed in real-time.

Other Activity: The local pair were perched together on the nest on platform 2 when another pair approached and one of them landed on platform 1 near the river. The resident male flew to attack them and they fought in the area of the platforms for about 15 minutes with the resident female remaining perched on the nest and fending off approaches from the intruders. After the intruding pair left the area, the resident male returned to the nest. Later one of the residents brought nesting material to the nest.

Other Activity: Female was perched on nest on Platform 2 and a male approached the nest as if to land, but the female raised its wings and and male did not attempt to land. The male was not carrying a fish. About 10 minutes later I saw the pair perched together on the nest and the male was hungrily eating a fish on the nest. The female continued to perch and paid little attention to the feeding male. After about 10 minutes the female flew from the nest toward the mouth of the river and the male continued to feed on the nest.

General Comments: Still seeing only a single osprey, but in the last day or so it has seemed larger than before and may now be a female. Time will tell.
