For more than 15 years, Greenbelt has been dedicated to Osprey conservation through the construction and maintenance of nesting platforms, data collection, public education, and collaborative research efforts aimed at protecting this once endangered species. Other Activity: 2 Osprey observed several times over approx 2 hours. Both seen in nest. Both seen flying around Collins Cove. Both seen paddling in the sea. Hunting One osprey seen eating, not in the best but halfway down the national grid transmission tower whilst the other was perched on the nest.

Other Activity: One osprey in nest platform. Two nestling sighted. Female has wings cocked to stay cool. Nest includes multiple dangling embellishments. It also looks a little bit in disarray at the leading edge from this viewpoint.

Weather Conditions: 91 degrees, sunny with no clouds, 10 mph wind gusts
Other Activity: When I arrived there was one osprey perched high on left side of the nest, couldn’t see any babies from where I was, at first, but then there was one who popped up. The (assuming female) Osprey in the nest started vocalizing, frantically, and a couple minutes later, a second Osprey flew right up to the nest, and it became apparent immediately that it was not her mate, but the third Osprey from the area. It flew right up to the nest, and she started chasing it around. After a minute or so, the male osprey returned and took over chasing the unwelcome osprey. Whereas the female was visibly trying to attack it, when the males started circling the area, all they did was circle each other at a distance, and both flew off towards Market Basket. About five minutes later, the male returned to the nest with a fish. Off towards the merrimack, there was a red tailed hawk circling, and the Ospreys took notice in the nest and vocalized. The third osprey returned again, and the male circled them in the air for a while. The male landed on a light post farther away from the nest than usual, presumably to keep an eye on the interloper, who did eventually leave.
