For more than 15 years, Greenbelt has been dedicated to Osprey conservation through the construction and maintenance of nesting platforms, data collection, public education, and collaborative research efforts aimed at protecting this once endangered species. Volunteers submit their sightings online, and the most recent sightings are displayed in real-time.

Other Activity: When my son and I arrived, only one adult was visible in nest. After a few minutes the second adult arrived with a small rodent. It flew over to a tree about 50 meters away and proceeded to eat it.

Other Activity: Female is sitting deep on the nest on platform 2. This is new and may be an egg. Male is perched on platform 3 with a live shad that is still wiggling.

General Comments: I think that my earlier report today that there were no osprey present at the Ring's Island site was not correct. The female is so low in the nest that I could only see the top of her head with a telescope. The earlier report was done without looking through the scope.

General Comments: The last few days only one osprey has been present on the platforms. Made me wonder if something happened. Today none are present which if very unusual. On of the pair is almost always perched on one platform or another--holding the territory.
