For more than 15 years, Greenbelt has been dedicated to Osprey conservation through the construction and maintenance of nesting platforms, data collection, public education, and collaborative research efforts aimed at protecting this once endangered species. Volunteers submit their sightings online, and the most recent sightings are displayed in real-time.

Other Activity: Initially one perched on the nest, the other on a rail on lower platform. Eventually both adults on the nest with one feeding young. The head of one young was visible above the edge of the nest.

Observation Method: on foot by scope

General Comments: Found best viewing from hill near Harbormaster shack on Winter Island. Height is about even with the height of the nest.

Other Activity: 8:00 Female feeding, 2 chicks visible, male fishing 8/02-3 dad at nest, leaves w fish, perches on crosspiece below then back to nest still w food then leaves. Mom feeding baby. Can see their heads together 8:21 he returns w fish (?) to crosspiece

Other Activity: The two nestlings are standing on the edge of the nest and exercising their wings. They are rotating backward at the shoulder joint while mom looks on.

Observation Method: Back deck

General Comments: Just returned from a two week absence and can’t believe how big they have gotten. Full feathers, squawking for dad to bring in the next meal.
