For more than 15 years, Greenbelt has been dedicated to Osprey conservation through the construction and maintenance of nesting platforms, data collection, public education, and collaborative research efforts aimed at protecting this once endangered species. Volunteers submit their sightings online, and the most recent sightings are displayed in real-time.

Other Activity: Initially the female osprey was perched and the chick was lying down. The female began calling quite a bit as another osprey flew towards the nest. When it got near, the chick got up and both called at and faced the incoming osprey. As it got close, the female chase it away. It returned once and she chased it again. Then it left.

Other Activity: We saw one adult in the nest that occasionally climbed out the edge. When out on the edge we saw the head of one nestling bobbing up and down.

Other Activity: Two adult osprey were perched on nest. One flew off and a smaller osprey came up from within the nest to join the adult who remained. He did seem to fluff his wings a bit and he was bigger than I was expecting.
Observation Method: On foot at Independence Park with the viewers on the beach. They have fairly strong magnification and I can see details in the nest better than with my binoculars.
General Comments: I could have stayed there all morning watching this - it was just amazing.

Other Activity: All 3 chicks were on the nest feeding themselves & Olivia was in a nearby tree. There is hardly room for her in the nest now because they are so big. I have to look twice sometimes to see if it is a chick or Olivia because they have their primary feathers. Yesterday Ollie dropped off a really big fish. They are a joy to watch all day.
