Other (specify below)

Location, Date & Time of Observation:
2023-08-02
4:50 PM to 5:20 PM
at: Gloucester

Number of Adults Visible:

Number of Nestlings Visible:

Number of Fledglings Visible: 1

Weather Conditions: Clear, warm, windy with some gusts

Other Activity: This little fledgling was just sitting for about 10 mins. Then suddenly got up on the edge o the nest and was testing his(her) wings and trying to fly. He made several attempts. His wings appeared wide and strong, but he just couldn’t launch. I had hoped he would take advantage of a wind gust. I found myself cheering him on. It was sad that he had no siblings to work with. After about 10 mins. He brought his wigs back down and just sat on the edge of the nest.

Observation Method: On foot

General Comments: This was the best day of observation that I have had over the past 2 summers. Because of the limited visibility of the nest, I can’t see eggs, nestlings, or feeding. Watching this little guy trying to take off was a real treat although frustrating and sad. I didn’t even feel my aching arms from holding up my binoculars for 20 mins. (HAH!)

Name: Robyn Lafata

Nest Name:
GLO-04A - Annisquam River Platform #2

Adult Osprey Activity Observed:
No Osprey visible on Nest

Location, Date & Time of Observation:
2023-08-02

at: Gloucester

Number of Adults Visible: 0

Number of Nestlings Visible: 0

Number of Fledglings Visible: 0

Weather Conditions: 68F sunny and light breeze

Other Activity: There are no Osprey around, none on the nest, no fledgling. Was talking th the land owners and they said the crows were relentlessly harassing the Osprey and have not seen it in about 4 days or so. I fear that something got it or it fell out of the nest. So sad, another failed nest.
